2020 Goals

As 2019 is drawing to an end, have you decided what you want to achieve in 2020?

There’s a widely known adage that goes like this “Failing to plan is planning to fail” and this phrase is commonly used to motivate people to achieve their goals. I certainly don’t believe anyone sets out planning to fail, but sometimes over commitment (too many goals), focusing on the wrong thing (unclear goals) or lack of discipline to follow through (unrealistic goals) are some of the reasons behind self-sabotage.

So what can you do to empower yourself to succeed in 2020? I believe in the power of questions. Here are ten questions that I have used to coach my clients to set better goals, write better goals, and follow up on goals better. I hope they will work for you too.

Ten questions to ask yourself:

  1. What is my headline for the year 2020 – in one sentence?
  2. What would I like to have MORE of in 2020?
  3. What would I like to have LESS of in 2020?
  4. What are my top 3 goals?
  5. What positive difference will these 3 goals (name them) have for me?
  6. What new thinking or action is needed for me to achieve my goals?
  7. How committed am I?
  8. What potential barriers might get in the way of me taking that action(s)?
  9. What kind of resources do I need to achieve my goals?
  10. What must I do every day to stay on track?
